Cannonball Run

In 1915 a stock Stutz Bearcat was driven by Erwin "Cannonball" Baker in his record coast to coast run which later inspired the outlaw Cannonball Run race. Built in Indianapolis, the engine was built by the Wisconsin Motor Company. Jay Leno has one of these in his car collection.
This is the 100th Anniversary "birth of the automobile" commemoration released by Grenada in 1986.

Another $20 mixture.

Last week on Monday I mailed off $20 to an ad in Linn's under worldwide mixtures that read "Elmer's back, $20 for $280 catalogue value, I'm 94 and selling out. All in 102 cards. Nothing under $1". Well I waited 11 days and I received an envelope today. In it were only 45 cards, but I'll never mind that. I actually wasn't knowing quite what to expect in the first place. 11 of the cards have sets of stamps, as of now I've only looked up one of the sets and it is a complete one. I haven't noticed any cards from duplicate countries so this is the most diverse mixture I've probably ever gotten. Dates range from 1870's perhaps to I'm guessing the 80's judging from the Princess Di set. Here's a look at the first one I'm showing from the mix. Poland #120 of a Polish cavalryman released on Jan.27,1919. It's kind of nice that the cards are all labeled with the cat. number. This one is non perforated so I imagine it may possibly be a forgery of a lesser valued one listed that has perforations, but I'll enjoy it never the less.

What Stamps would Jesus Use?

Well, I imagine if he were walking the Earth the past decade or so and mailed you a letter, a good possibility exists that he would have franked the letter with some of these. He'd also probably be stopped and searched trying to enter Jerusalem and tried and convicted for being part of an extremist organization. I can't find this sheet in my catalogue for one reason or another. I'm not sure why, but it does exist. I'm guessing the singles listed all come from sheets like this. I'm also confused because the stamps in my catalogue like this are all overprinted in 1994.

Update..........As usual, Gordon Lee Groves  from the group Stamp Collecting on Facebook answered a couple questions and pointed out the error of my ways by leaving this comment in the post of this I left on the group page...............First of all, it is a pane of stamps and not a sheet. (A sheet consists of two or more panes.) Second, it was issued 1 September 1994 and is listed in Scott as number 2. Depicted is the Hisham Palace in Jericho. It is also on the 5-mils and the 20-mils. The 30, 40, 50 and 75-mils stamps, issued the same day, show the Jerusalem Mosque. A 1000-mils, also issued on the 1st of September, shows the Dome of the Rock. The other four stamps in this 13 stamp set, were issued 15 August 1995 and are denominated between 125-mils and 500-mils and depict the Palestinian Authority Flag.

Maelstrom

This 1973 release commemorating the 100th anniversary of the World Meteorological Association shows just how powerful King Neptune really is. Perhaps none of the sailors aboard the ship were Shellbacks, all vessels riding at sea should have at least one aboard.

George V's Silver Bahamas

George the Fifth's 25th(silver) anniversary or jubilee of his ascension to the throne is to me tied with Nelson's Trafalgar anniversary as far as best omnibus's. These are my Bahama stamps in the omnibus. And this BEST KING GEORGE V SILVER OMINUBUS WEBSITE is the authority for anyone interested in these stamps. I haven't pulled these out in a few years to look at them and I need to put them back and catch my breath.

Grinding Grain For Money

This mills and millers 32 pence self adhesive Isle of Man from 2009 has a slightly higher value then the one exactly like it in the lick em stick variety issued at the same time. I'm not quite sure why now, but perhaps it is because of the number produced.   The one pound note stamp of 30 pence which is also a self adhesive is valued in the Stampworld catalogue the same as it's lick em variety.  Personally of the two, I find the banknote stamp the more attractive of the two because I love the look of banknotes, be they modern or old, though I enjoy old photos.   Milling is money, making flour or meal from grain, and I think these two tie well together in at least that context.

Roses are red....

Well, that's what we usually think right? Here are 3 old garden roses out of a set of 5 released in Bermuda in 1988. They are Old Blush, Anna Olivier and Rosa Chinensis Semperflorens in ascending order. I have to say, if someone loves to grow roses, they must be tormented in selecting the variety they want to grow due to the wide variety that's available.
