Cake!!!

I dug up this today while clearing off some of the mountain. I can't dig up much info on it as about all I have to go on is the Aug, 1974 date and a Pat. Pending. I imagine maybe someone will recognize the photo and a trail may lead as to it's origin. ;)

Unique Address?....Priceless.

A postcard of the Golden Throne in Mysore Palace is a fantastic addition to my postcard collection. Follow those links and you'll see what I mean. Multiple stamps are always a plus on cards I receive also. There can never be too many stamps on a card or envelope one receives. The entire region this card comes from is deeply steeped in mythology, religion and military history and yet, I cannot help but find my attention drawn however to the unique return address on this card. I read an article recently about the Jamaicans trying to fix the address system so as it is easy for postmen to find the recipient. Here is an address that reminds me of the addresses used there, but this one is in India and please note the line "near varthur Police station" which is what I am referring to as being unique.  Thanks for appreciating my blog Col. Akhil Kumar, you'll be hearing from me soon my friend, via snail mail.

Been there, Wish I Done That.

This may come as a shock to most folks, but my job is not thrilling. I get all my enjoyment at work conversing with coworkers. I was conversing with a sweet gal named Ling and happened to mention(yeah, just happened to bring up) that I was searching for stamps and postcards. She in turn just says that she'll have her sister mail me a postcard from Australia. Wow, that shows you how nice she is. Zero interest herself in any philatelic endeavors whatsoever and boom, she's having her sister send me a card. Turns out to be a card of Perth, Australia which my ship(when I was a Navy Lad) pulled into. That was 30 years ago and how I've wished over the years I had a memento of it all. Also, it was franked with a 2013 stamp of a 40 spotted pardalote(yeah, I'm a bird nut also, with 4 birds who actually "converse" with me) which actually has about half that more spot's than 40. Also a pair of tourist spots(cripes, I unintentionally made a pun) in Australia(Fremantle's Fisherman's Wharf and Sydney's The Rocks) from 2008. Now she's telling me she's got some stamps for me and keeps forgetting to bring them in and I'm so unsure of how to show a little gratitude.

7 Ancient Wonders

I received my first Postcard of an ancient wonder of the world today from my good friend Mohamed Ibrahim who is in the FB group "Postcards swap". It also happens to be a Unesco site and gives me another card to check off my list. The Pyramids and Great Sphynx. The affixed stamp listed as "Egyptian Art" 2002-2005. I definitely need an update from a Facebook friend on this one.

The Kaiser

This is one of if not my favorite postcard in my collection. I should probably call it a postal card since the stamp is a print on the card. A 60th Jubilee card. He had a tough time as an Emperor to be sure. He looks really good on stamps though, I've got a bunch of them. Here is a link to a short bio.  http://androom.home.xs4all.nl/biography/p001433.htm

Mounds.....Sometimes you don't

The most amazing thing that people find at the tourist center is the fact that few locals go, let alone even know what the the mounds are or even know it exists!!

UNESCO World Heritage

Due to the underwhelming response for my last giveaway(no entries at all), I'm running this World Heritage card giveaway thru July AND August. I'm in search of postcards from any of the sites. A list is here. http://whc.unesco.org/en/list . I'll trade straight up a Cahokia card for another UNESCO site card from anywhere else OR you can just send me any old postcard(or new) and write Monk's Mound on the back and I will randomly (blind pick from a bag) select a winner of this one in September. My addy is 902 Sycamore St, Belleville, IL., 62220,   USA
I need to thank Steve for picking up a few cards for me while he was taking the tour there with his family last week.

Bonnaroo

I had begun to think my daughter had joined the circus after seeing a photo of her at a carnival. I'm much relieved after receiving this card.

It's nice to see the U.S.P.S. made a special cancellation for the event.

Thanks Rosie, I love you so much. I think it took a week and a half to get to me because you wrote 602 instead of 902, those postal workers had to do some figuring on this one eh?

Dancing House Prague

Deb picked this up on her trip last year. It's an insanely long trifolded card. She didn't mail it :(, but it's still nice and no doubt a tad less worn. A scanner the size of a pool table would be nice instead of the standard size one that I have. I had to scan the picture in two parts and at a lower res so that I could turn the picture 90 degrees using my scan program. Hopefully the res is high enough so that clicking on the image will enlarge the left corner enough and be readable, If not I'm going to delete the address side of the card.

Take a shot at winning this FDC!!!  http://stampsandcovers.blogspot.com/2013/06/nickel-and-dime-giveaway.html?spref=fb

Two Bridges

This is a nice card I got from a dealer. It looks like an awesome city. Architecture AND Scenery.

I ordered some stamps I couldn't get at my P.O. hopefully they get here soon. I actually ordered some $5.00 Washington/Jacksons. I didn't want to buy 4 to get one, but I've found a registered reply letter is $9.60 reg. + .92 letter rate. $10.52.....Ouch.  I hope not many people mail me registered letters.

In The Clouds

This is the front and back cover of a folded postcard set. Someone took a picturesque railroad trip in 1941.

The map on the inside cover shows Colorado on the east side and California on the west. Also in between are Utah, and Nevada and Arizona.

I'll be posting several of the cards each day the next few days.

Bush has gotta look at himself in the mirror at times, and say "What the hell have I done?"

Terra Haute, Indiana

This card is kinda cool\odd. Picture postcard with a place to write on the same side as the picture. Whatever happened to this idea?

I heard on the radio tonight, that Iran is considering holding Euros rather then USdollars for oil. Terrible for the US, but great for Europe and Asia. I know Bush will believe he's doing the right thing(as usual), in dealing with the financial downfall for us. I'm sure he'll even find a way to put the word "security" in his speeches when he talks about it.
God Bless the USA, God help Bush.

I got 64 hours in at work this week, so you might understand why I missed yesterday. I gotta get up in 4 hours for work tomorrow. I don't get normal hours till Tuesday. UGH!!!

Cahokia Mounds Unesco

22 million cubic feet of earth make up this mound just 15 miles from my house. I didn't know about it until recently when I was in the Topicalstampsandpostcards group on yahoo and someone(actually several people) traded UNESCO cards. I looked up UNESCO on the internet and I DISCOVERED it. This place had a population of 20,000 between 1100 and 1200 AD. I was shocked when I saw how big it was and didn't even know it was here. Unesco, check it out. Lots of Sites Worldwide. Collecting postcards from them is a collectors challenge. Good Luck. I can readily get these cards for any postcard trades. If you just want the card, all you have to do is send me a letter requesting one. If you want it mailed in mint condition, please email me and we can see what kind of deal to work out. I have no problem collecting cards postally used. I know some of you collectors have better taste(and I admit you do) rightfully so. everyones got their own tastes. Mine is cheap beer and Captain Morgan.

Oh yeah, those two previous contests for SUPER CHEAPO prizes, that would still be nice in a collection are still open. No winners yet. The Let's Dance set of postal cards and the letter from the US with very nice Commemoratives. I'll even ask you what you want from my recent mint I have, or older commemoratives from the 40's 50's 60's and 70's maybe later too.
