Switzerland

Tonights find is a sweet one. Picked from an old album I picked up.

I can only find two varieties of this gold 1 Franc stamp.

On white wove paper it's catalogued at 100US$ in the 03 book, used, which it appears. yellowish bronze '1864 is 325$ and granite paper is a 1,100$.

I haven't got my magnifier out yet(I'll no doubt update todays blog when I do), but it doesn't appear to be on granite paper by th bare eye(at least mine). As faR as the yellowish bronze....I'm not sure what that is referring too. It's too bad it was penciled on the back, but it isn't odd seeing that.

I found more stuff on the same page I'm a bit psyched about too!!!

Check it out on my next post.

If you've got a special knowledge or interest in these Swiss stamps, please drop a line. I'm open to anything.

Antigua

Sweet cover, crinkles tape and all, wouldn't you say?

I gotta start posting stuff I don't like, maybe someone else will like it.

Then again, I may be hard put finding something.

Then again......

Bikes

Warning!! The print on the backing is flipped left to right.
I'm just too lazy to scan it over.

I dropped mail at the P.O. today and picked up this sheet. I like it. Want to swap a set of four on a cover for the same? Only collectors outside the US are eligible. Sorry about that. I know the largest majority of viewers on the blog are in the US.

My wife works at the nearby hospital where nurses jokingly call bike riders "organ donars". There is a tad bit of truth to the joke. I guess that's what makes jokes funny, is the truth in them sometimes.

George V Hong Kong

My catalogue says this is one of either two stamps.

Blue and violet on blue paper or ultra and violet.

OK, I see the violet, now what's the difference between blue and ultra?

Oh how I wish I had a color guide. Guess I'm gonna have to eventually break down and get a color catalogue or just a card set of colors for Scott's catalogue, which is what I use.

I like finding old stamps valued $1 from the 1910-20's.

Plus I really like Hong Kong stamps anyways!!

New South Wales

Not rare, but still a nice find. I have to say that this stamp appears very modern for it's time. Issued for roughly 10 years from 1897 until 1907. My problem is deducing which variety I have of that 10 year span. Blue, dark blue, type 1, type II or an assortment of half a dozen perfs? OK, perf measurement isn't too tough.
