Jainism
Todays stamp displays the Calcutta Jain Temple aka Parshwanath Temple. Jainism is an ancient Indian religion, which after reading about it, seems to me to bear a lot of practices of Buddhism. I couldn't help but notice that the symbol they use is unfortunately the same symbol as that adopted by the Nazi's, what a horrible thing for people of any religious faith to have to deal with. 1 and a quarter Annas!!

Kolkata
I learn something new every day, or should I say something old? When was Calcutta renamed Kolkata? I'm usually the last to learn everything. Anywho...this 9 Pies stamp has the Victoria Memorial in (the formerly named) Calcutta. I sense a theme trend with this set of King George Silver Jubilee's. Let's see if this trend continues. Indian currency confounds me, but I think only because the names have been changed. There were either 16 Pies in an Anna or 12, perhaps someone can help me with that one. But what is a Rupee then?

Memorials that serve an actual function are the best of all. This one serves as a museum and gardens.

Gateway of India
I'm closing in on having all the King George Silver Jubilee issues. It's quite fitting that the Gateway is on this issue from this Indian 1/2 Anna. The Gateway was built to commemorate George along with Queen Mary's visit in December of 1911.
India's commemorative series catalogues at the higher end of value when compared to the other countries which issued them. They are in my view more aesthetically pleasing on the whole also.

Missing Just One
This is one of my favorites as far as issues go. 1962's QE2 Hong Kong. I'm missing the $5 stamp and my catalogue describes 2 different types of each one. Ordinary and chalky paper. Now what in the world is mean't by that and how does one go about detrming if they have either one or the other? I notice that the right edge of her face has a shine to it as though from a light and don't know if this is an offset in the printing or just the natural glow of this hot chicka's beauty. I'm guessing it's a tad offset.

Dependency's Badge
I'm at a loss here. Nice stamp, decent catalogue value, but try to discern some info on the ship Dependency? Even with the internet it seems to be a fools errand. What the hell is the Badge all about anyways? Inquiring minds need to know. Oh the Queen is so god awful beautiful though isn't she? Not the best image of her on a stamp but oh my she's a looker. This is #134 in my book.
Edit... Matthew Healey from the FB group Stamp Collecting pointed out to me that the Dependency refers to the Islands, not the ship which I had supposed. Thanks Matthew!!!
Edit 2...Gordon Groves from FB group Stamp Collecting shared this.......During the 1870's Britain decided to create a flag for the islands. A sketch of the "badge" was sent to England. It consisted of a ship, two piles of salt, and a salt gatherer. An interesting story can be found here:http://blogs.smithsonianmag.com/history/2012/12/white-gold-how-salt-made-and-unmade-the-turks-and-caicos-islands/

Coat of Arms
As is not uncommon. I'm missing the last stamp in this set of 4.#166 thru 169 in Scott. The 50 center and 1 dollar are still valued $4.50 apiece in the 2003 catalogue.
The first two easily fluffed off the old album page. The 50 cent plate corner was not as cooperative. Being not hinged and directly applied, it began to thin the stamp. I need to soak it of the page.
Where can I find more time? Does anyone have extra time they could send me?

I truly had no idea when they had planned on travelling.

St Kitts

Caribbean tour? I'm amazed at the vast amounts of reasons to make a special cover.
I haven't received any covers in my world quest for awhile, actually quite awhile. Somehow I need to get more people to see my bloc. Any ideas other then harassing people? A contest? Giveaways? I hate to try giveaways, my luck the response would be overwhelming and I'd go broke or disappoint some people and I don't want to do either.
My local stamp club is having it's annual stamp show/bourse the first Saturday of October. I'm trying to get the day off to go. I work 2nd shift all week and can't go to meetings and I work 1st shift on Saturdays and can't do anything on Saturdays.
Work sucks.

George V Hong Kong

My catalogue says this is one of either two stamps.
Blue and violet on blue paper or ultra and violet.
OK, I see the violet, now what's the difference between blue and ultra?
Oh how I wish I had a color guide. Guess I'm gonna have to eventually break down and get a color catalogue or just a card set of colors for Scott's catalogue, which is what I use.
I like finding old stamps valued $1 from the 1910-20's.
Plus I really like Hong Kong stamps anyways!!

Bechuanaland

A fistful of stamps are on this cover from Bechuanaland. There is no return address, but it IS sent registered mail. The postmark has Bech Prot. stamped on it. At first I thought the lines accross the envelope were from storage of the cover, but closer examination shows the line is covered by the stamp. Someones attempt to apply the stamps in a straight line? All my links and my profile info have somehow slipped to the bottom of my page. It's a curious thing how this may have happened. I'm at a complete loss. I'm thinking that maybe the size of my images has forced it down somehow. Time will tell, I don't know of a fix just right yet.

I tinkered a bit and found the problem on my blog from las Friday, It seems an internet address I wrote extended too far and forced the links on the right side down.
I seem to be getting mail daemons from this site, I guess I need to put my email address somewhere on this site until I can deduce the problem with comments here. Of course this can be circumverted for now by going to the In Search of Stamps forum on the right and joining. It's a small group right now(real small), but sure to grow albeit slowly.

Gibralter

No, beggars CAN'T be choosers. That's why I have this Gibralter postal card. I't been hanging pinned up somewhere and you can even see how the light has faded the card by the way whatever was posted over it protected it from fading.
The art of handsome penmanship is quickly disapearing. I admire the fancy strokes of the writers hands during this era.

St Lucia newspaper rate

Interesting. I like the warning to people who may sneak a note into the envelope.
I used to deliver newspapers. I had a rural route and was paid a "premium" because my customers were spread out and walked twice as far for half the customers. I remember my Dad would always drive me around on Sunday morning, even though he didn't have to. That was even when he worked two jobs 6 days a week.
Times have changed and so has the rate for sending newspapers. I wonder how many newspapers St Lucia mails now?

UC of West Indies

These FDC's show that some people involved in the preperation of covers don't think. Like many of us don't at times. The people putting stamps on one cover noticed that the stamp outline on the cover was one verticle and one horizontal, while the two stamps used were both verticles and ignored the missprint. I've got 5 of these covers from different countries and 2 of them have one of the stamps facing the wrong direction. It only goes to show us that people are conformists, even when it may be wrong to conform. The cover with Montserrat stamps is the one with the verticle stamp applied horizontally in order to conform.JimmyB

Intergalactic connections

This 12th of May fdc from British Guyana was actually postmarked on the same date as the anniversary on the stamp. Was the Cook Islands sleeping yesterday? Were not all of these anniversary stamps released on the same date? Did George really get abducted by aliens and get cloned to perpetuate the royal line on a distant galaxy?
If you notice, the artifacts in the center of the stamp have several references to his galactic quest. A bird and a star over what appears to be a globe. The royal mothers great longevity could well have been caused by warping back and forth across the galaxy for years and years.

Queen Elizabeth
King George the 6th. Coronation issue. FDC in fact AND an overprint, What more could you ask for? Another big Omnibus issue from the same country that brought us the original postage stamp. The Cook Islands and New Zealand are old stomping grounds of Captain Cook, who was murdered and chopped into pieces and divided amongst Hawaiian Chieftains.
9 days till the St Louis expo. Hope to see you there!!
