My catalogue says this is one of either two stamps.

Blue and violet on blue paper or ultra and violet.

OK, I see the violet, now what's the difference between blue and ultra?

Oh how I wish I had a color guide. Guess I'm gonna have to eventually break down and get a color catalogue or just a card set of colors for Scott's catalogue, which is what I use.

I like finding old stamps valued $1 from the 1910-20's.

Plus I really like Hong Kong stamps anyways!!

New South Wales

Not rare, but still a nice find. I have to say that this stamp appears very modern for it's time. Issued for roughly 10 years from 1897 until 1907. My problem is deducing which variety I have of that 10 year span. Blue, dark blue, type 1, type II or an assortment of half a dozen perfs? OK, perf measurement isn't too tough.

OK, I admit it, I really like these nude stamps. There's just something about seeing a beautiful woman nude that's fascinated me since I was about old enough to walk and talk at the same time. Even before I started collecting stamps. Hehe.

$4.50 used in my 3 year old catalog. Nice find tonight eh?

I only wish it had been 11 1/2 perf rather then 13 1/2.

The difference? $270 in the catalogue!!!!

I tried ordering the Swedish booklet of 4 stamps thru the USPS and all I could get was this. Snoozers are losers, but I'm still glad I could get this.

I should have tried getting it when it was released.

Postmarked on Dec 14, 1950. Returned 2 months later(mark on back).
I looked on an MIA list for Korea and didn't find his name. Perhaps he became known later as POW or KIA.

$1 Dollar HK is really a nice find I made tonight. The George V below I can't find in my catalogue, but then I'm more intrigued by the seal on the stamp.

In The Clouds

This is the front and back cover of a folded postcard set. Someone took a picturesque railroad trip in 1941.

The map on the inside cover shows Colorado on the east side and California on the west. Also in between are Utah, and Nevada and Arizona.

I'll be posting several of the cards each day the next few days.

Bush has gotta look at himself in the mirror at times, and say "What the hell have I done?"

Baseball Greats

Should I complain about anything on this issue? Why complain? I'm not "collecting" these, so much as getting them to use on mail to send to someone.

If I collected mint US Stamps I'd be hurling lugies at the USPS.

Why make a collector pay $7.80 for a sheet of stamps commemorating only 4 baseball players?

I'd of been happy with the sheet of comic book heroes I posted the day before yesterday. Same price, so many more different stamps.

It's not like it took anyone a great deal of time to work on these 4 renditions.

A couple nice souvenier sheets. I saw hummingbirds at my back porch today and rolled over elephants playing "My Katamari" tonight on my PSP. See how it all fits together with tonights theme? Tonights theme is things I saw today. For real on souvenier sheets.

I gotta say that Batman was my favorite comic book hero when I was a kid. I imagine because it was a popular tv show at the time.



Several new stamps have been issued since my last visit to the post office. I stopped there today and picked up a couple must have sets.

Canal Zone

You'd almost think that this was a Canal Zone stamp, well it is released in the Canal Zone.

I think.

I like it anyways.

It must be a U.S. Navy ship based in the Canal Zone on the postmark. Ships of the U.S. Navy are technically U.S. Ground.

UX5 US Postal Card

I need to get a scott's specialized catalogue. I really do, maybe stuff like this I could look up then.

I'm really enjoying the cigar also. It even came wrapped in cedar.

I appreciate the occasional cards. The occasional cigar works just as good. Too bad I can't buy real good Cubans.

It's messed up that it would take an act of Congress to make cigars legal for me to purchase.

Politics and governments have an evil side to them that sometimes the will of the people isn't enough.

I hope Fidel gets well, I'd be happy to give him a cigar when he recoups, bet hell, he's got better smokes then I can get!!!(arguably)

I cannot discern the year on the postmark, nor even the century.

Pan American Pearl Harbor

I like this one, Stationed on the USS Enterprise I see the sender is. Special delivery 10 more cents. A hefty sum for a serviceman in 39 I would guess.

Delivered (stamped on back not shown Dec 27th, 1939) in 8 days. Pretty fast for back then I guess.

Being a Navy man myself I can appreciate the Enterprise cancelation.

I also like the envelope, it must be a photo of the mail plane in the bottom left corner.

Hindenburg

This postal envelope is simply peppered with stamps to cover the postage for this first Hindenburg flight cover.

Stampless Cover

I don't have very many examples of covers without stamps.

This one strikes me odd, with the double circular mark that looks like a stamp cancel. Why mark the cover paid and also give it a stamp like that? Does anyone know what this 00 looking mark is for?

Postmarked Apr 29 Trenton NJ, I assume 1846 by the note written on the right side of the envelope.

Here's an odd one. My Scott FDC book only shows single values, no block values. Isn't this a block? Never mind, I see now that it's a single pane of six. I know the condition is miserable. I get what I'm served. What's with all the cancellations on this?

Columbia Overprinted

I can't find these stamps in my catalogue, someone wrote 107 on the clip of paper and I'm certain that is not the catalogue number. In my book anyways.
Are any of you serious Columbia collectors? Or do you know what they are? Wait a moment... Is that a Panama overprint? Yep. Hmmm, probably not the double overprint listed, though I could argue that it's got 2 overprints. They are probably referring to a set actually stamped twice. Not to mention, this is a pathetic condition for a stamp to be in. Some people just can't throw anything away I guess.

Here's a Columbian stamp now. Kinda tricky there.

This summer is turning out to be a wicked hot one.
