75th U.P.U. Anniversary

 These were issued in a set of 4, naturally I only have the 3 lowest values. Nevertheless it's nice to have these from Singapore. This is an omnibus release, which means that multiples of different countries released stamps commemorating this event. While many countries released matching stamps, some countries also released their own version of stamps in recognition.

Changelings

 Changelings were often a topic of conversation when I used to attend my local stamp club in Belleville, IL. Sometimes stamps were brought in that appeared to be green vs blue and a couple old timers would butt heads and eventually the matter would be dropped and they'd shrug their shoulders at whoever brought the stamp in. Here is an example of perhaps one. Could it have been a different tint of ink used, as many suppliers of ink, particularly long ago, didn't have the exacting color detection instruments of today, or is it merely conditions one of the stamps was exposed to which lightened it.
 These are 15 cent Canal Zone airmails issue date of Nov. 18th, 1931. Released in nine different denominations. The difference in shade is subtle yet quite apparent.
 My guess, judging from the color of the paper, is that it is mostly a change due to exposure to elements. Note the slight yellowing of the paper on the stamp that's above the other.

Ships of Discovery

This is a souvenir sheet from Australia 99 World Stamp Expo held in March.
Among this set of ships are the H.M.S. Rattlesnake, H.M.S. Swallow, Roebuck, H.M.S. Blanche, Vitaz, San Pedrico, and L'Astrolabe. These were ships of discovery.

Not Jersey Shores

 Back to my Battle of Trafalgar anniversary stamps. I posted the 34 pence several years ago, well here is the complete set. The HMS Belleisle, HMS Sovereign, HMS Neptune, HMS Euryalus and HMS Mars all portrayed in their glorious unprecedented victory!! Issued in 2005 on the 200th Anniversary of the greatest naval victory in the history of the world!!

Two that never passed.

  The Caracca, a Portugese ship, which is depicted in this Maltese stamp released in 2006. It was popularly known as the Gran Caracca Di Rodi. It was an awesome war machine in it's time weighing in at a supposed 2000 tons, having six decks(two below the waterline), being coated in lead and thought to be unsinkable(not the last ship to have been thought so). Christopher Columbus used to watch this ship as it waited ashore when he was a little boy.

 The Bremen, a German built passenger liner, is depicted on this German stamp released in 2004 which is the 75th anniversary of it winning the Blue Riband, which was an unofficial award given to passenger liners in regular service crossing the Atlantic in record time.

S.O.S.

Sink, sank, sunk. These ships never quite made their destination. They wound up making a nice topic for a series of South West Africa stamps however. These wrecks are the Hope, 1804 which was a U.K. brig, the Tilly, 1885, the Eduard Bohlen, 1909 which was a German passenger/cargo ship, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eduard_Bohlen, and the Dunedin Star, 1942 from Great Britain, which was a refrigerated cargo liner, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MV_Dunedin_Star.

Dependency's Badge

 I'm at a loss here. Nice stamp, decent catalogue value, but try to discern some info on the ship Dependency? Even with the internet it seems to be a fools errand. What the hell is the Badge all about anyways? Inquiring minds need to know. Oh the Queen is so god awful beautiful though isn't she? Not the best image of her on a stamp but oh my she's a looker.   This is #134 in my book.


Edit... Matthew Healey from the FB group Stamp Collecting pointed out to me that the Dependency refers to the Islands, not the ship which I had supposed. Thanks Matthew!!!


Edit 2...Gordon Groves from FB group Stamp Collecting shared this.......During the 1870's Britain decided to create a flag for the islands. A sketch of the "badge" was sent to England. It consisted of a ship, two piles of salt, and a salt gatherer. Edited.....Big stick and a general I've never heard of

 First day issue on the anniversary of opening the Panama Canal. Postmarked on the U.S.S. Charleston. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Charleston_(PG-51) . I'm curious as to how many days it took the postal crew on the ship to hand stamp all of the FDC's? The general I've never heard of?  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Washington_Goethals.

Sinking below the waves

They celebrated the 200th anniversary of Tuvalu, but they have they're own battle being waged as the sea rises. Tuvalu, a set of islands in the South Pacific, is expected to disappear this century as it sits mere feet above sea level and that level is rising. I can't understand why anyone would design a sheet that looks like the stamps are facing sideways from the selvage art.

Nelson was brilliant and fearless.

The best damn naval battle EVER!! Nothing compares to the story behind this one. Gibraltar and Isle of Man commemorating the 200th anniversary. Epic is what it was. I happen to have a duplicate of this one if anyone is interested in a trade off some type.

Nothing like a set of naval ships. Russia seems to have an unbelievable number of stamp issues.

The 4K Sub and 15K minesweeper, I can say I've worked on both classes of ships in the shipyards. Not these Russian boats, but the US versions.

Kinda cool, to me at least.

I'm psyched about the Chinese shootdown of a satellite.

Go China!!!! Technology is great and I say again.....China is going to beat the US to Mars. I don't think Russia wants to waste the money.
