Nothing like a set of naval ships. Russia seems to have an unbelievable number of stamp issues.

The 4K Sub and 15K minesweeper, I can say I've worked on both classes of ships in the shipyards. Not these Russian boats, but the US versions.

Kinda cool, to me at least.

Howdy Doody!!!

I just like that phrase.

That's what got me to look at a $5.00 ad in a U.S. stamp publication classified ad. His address is in IL as is mine. I slipped a 5 with no note besides howdy doody and a short time later got my return.



I was impressed to say the least. A great time looking at something new for me.

My friend at work.......Hi Mike!!!.....who is not a stamp collector had some time and was willing to look at my return, and also some WW that another friend had brought in for me. I handed him a stamp tong and he actually checked out EVERY stamp.

Most amusing to me was his interest in a machin. Much to my chagrin, I am not a machin man. GB is awesome, but I lose it on machins. Check out http://groups.msn.com/StampsofGreatBritain/_whatsnew.msnw is what I would tell someone and meet some machin lovers.

Mike you haven't seen anything until you've seen all the machins. Or should I say "Is it possible to see all the machins?". He was quick to spot another with a heavy cancel and knew right away which one he liked.

I'm guessing the bottom one is a Tuna. Here we go from my book.

Ships of the East India Co. No doubt. Political wealth and human cost is what I think of it all.

I expected to see thins on the backside of these, but was surprised that no gum at all is disturbed. I think that's gum in fact hanging out from the paper on the bottom left of the 22.5.

Oh yeah, the East India Co. makes me think of privateers and pirateers also. Aargh!!

Wednesday night I went to my local stamp club meeting for the first time in exactly a year. Next week I go on days and will be able to go to the meetings once again.

Our club made these cool decals to go on envelopes this past year and I was able to scarf a bunch of them.



Heres a nice stamp for collectors of coins.

May daughter came out from CT this week visiting if you are wondering about the blog writing rest.
Somebody may have noticed Moo leaves comments ocasionally. She didn't, I might add, jump at the chance of going to a club meeting.

Inverted background

The yellow background is inverted on this stamp. A special printing of these occured after the discovery of inverted backgrounds on the originals. This is the first day of re-issue.

This isn't the first gorilla to appear on a Ugandan stamp.

A co-worker came upon this and was kind enough to save the stamp for me. Thanks Traci!!!

Close call on the tear there. It's always best to use scissors. Better yet, whole covers are more then welcome.

I'm curious as to the name of the city on the torn circular. Could it be Rocta? Bocta? I need a map.

A complete set I might add. CTO, this set came in a mixture of Vietnam that I purchased from Mystic Stamp Co. One of their bargain deals they advertise trying to coax you into the approval offers they then mail to you.

It'd be cool if they sent me the block plate of inverted Jenny's for approval. I'd probably return them, but I'd sure get some personal scans and photos with them!!

It ain't pretty, but it still is for me. My first, and I emphasis first penny black. Nice red maltese cross space filler.

I won't say what I paid for it, though I will add that it wasn't much.

For anybody really really new to collecting, this is regarded as the worlds first postage stamp.

This series of 15 stamps was mandatory to use on Nov 29-30 and Dec 1 and 2 in order to raise money for a museum.

I've bungled across 4 of the 15 today. The 3 below are the highest values in the set valued at $11.50, 12.00 and 18.00 respectively.

A nice "find" tonight. Andorra under Spanish Admin. E3 a Special Delivery stamp. $18.00 in my 03 Scott's. The only clue that it was hinged is the missing gum where the hinge was lifted.

More good finds of Andorra. #13 thru 18 all have $2.25 values in 03 except for the 25c which is $5.50

Andorra is between France ans Spain on the southern slopes of the Pyrenees Mountains.

Again these are Spanish admin. My Scott's notes that well centered stamps before 1950 are not the norm.

Never hinged, but a slight thin on the top right looking at the back.

Duplicates, odds and ends

Last week I responded to an ad for seventy years of duplicates, odds and ends being cleaned out.



I was given a very fast response and pleased with a few items that I didn't anticipate,

such as this booklet of 7 stamps.

I wouldn't hesitate responding to another ad from Mr I. Olson.

A whole set. I'm feeling lucky in my sortings of stamps lately.

When do you have a complete set that is incomplete? When you have this set of 4 that has another set issued as air mail stamps(different engraving).

These are the flags of the 21 American Republics and the 50th Anniversary of the Pan American Union.
