Manxmen

 Another super duper fantastic issue of the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar. Yes, Nelson is present on the stamp, but this set is for the men from the Isle of Man. Manxmen they are called. John Quilliam is represented as the "Manxman" on the 22p stamp on the lower left. Nelson made him First Lieutenant on the HMS Victory, a 104 gun first-rate ship of the line. The lead ship which Nelson was on leading the charge and commanded by Captain Thomas Hardy. The fact that Quilliam survived the suicidal position of being on the lead ship is amazing. As fantastic as the strategy was, the Victory along with the Royal Sovereign(splitting off as a lead ship to the right) bore the worst of it all in the total British annihilation of the French and Spanish navies. "God Save The Queen!!!!"

Not Jersey Shores

 Back to my Battle of Trafalgar anniversary stamps. I posted the 34 pence several years ago, well here is the complete set. The HMS Belleisle, HMS Sovereign, HMS Neptune, HMS Euryalus and HMS Mars all portrayed in their glorious unprecedented victory!! Issued in 2005 on the 200th Anniversary of the greatest naval victory in the history of the world!!

 Antigua & Barbuda,  this one is a 90 cent stamp. If you ever need better detail on these images, you can simply click on the image to get a more detailed view.
 How many anniversary stamps were issued? I'm not certain. If anyone has a new enough catalogue with the totals, I would deeply appreciate any info on how many are in the omnibus, including which countries.

 It's been a week since the raffle deadline and I didn't receive any entries yet. It's looking like no winner for last month. Today my friend should hopefully have my UNESCO Cahokia Mounds post card for this months prize. I'm hoping he remembered to pick them up when he was out there(he is not a philatelist), else I'm going for a drive sometime this week.

Barrel of Brandy

 Nelson's body was stored in a barrel of brandy for the trip home from his victorious battle as depicted on this 38 pence Gibraltar 200th anniversary stamp.

Sinking below the waves

They celebrated the 200th anniversary of Tuvalu, but they have they're own battle being waged as the sea rises. Tuvalu, a set of islands in the South Pacific, is expected to disappear this century as it sits mere feet above sea level and that level is rising. I can't understand why anyone would design a sheet that looks like the stamps are facing sideways from the selvage art.

Nelson was brilliant and fearless.

The best damn naval battle EVER!! Nothing compares to the story behind this one. Gibraltar and Isle of Man commemorating the 200th anniversary. Epic is what it was. I happen to have a duplicate of this one if anyone is interested in a trade off some type.

Trafalgar and war ships

The veritable who's who of the great war ships. I had to get this for my Trafalgar anniversary set.
I hated to, because I feel like I'm buying a set that's pumped out for collectors, but how the heck can you have a complete anniversary set of all stamps commemorating the 200th anniversary?
This set is different then all my others so far, in that their are stamps that deal with ships unrelated to the battle at all. Oh well, fortunately they got a painting of the HMS Victory, lame as the painting is.

Lord Nelson Trafalgar

The sweet smell of gunpowder and victory!!! The greatest military hero ever!!!
I've got a lot of the Anniversary issues last year, but I'm still missing a lot.
For those of you who don't know, Nelson masterminded the total annihilation of France and Spains combined fleet of 33 ships. 18 of which were totally destroyed. He did this with only 27 British vessels, and losing not a single ship. He only had 1700 casualties(counting himself), compared to France and Spains 7,000. He died knowing he had won a great victory.

Tonight I should be getting display sheets at my local stamp club meeting for all the Trafalgar anniversary sets I've collected since they began getting issued in early 2005. I've been sticking them in a drawer and need to work on a list of what I have and what I still need. These are the ultimate in topical stamps in my eyes. I'll begin showing my collection with Alderney's.
If you have any stamps that depict Nelson, the Victory or any of the other ships involved in this action, even former ships that Nelson was stationed on, please don't hesitate to contact me. I'd love to get my hands on these!!
