Sinking below the waves

They celebrated the 200th anniversary of Tuvalu, but they have they're own battle being waged as the sea rises. Tuvalu, a set of islands in the South Pacific, is expected to disappear this century as it sits mere feet above sea level and that level is rising. I can't understand why anyone would design a sheet that looks like the stamps are facing sideways from the selvage art.

Nelson was brilliant and fearless.

The best damn naval battle EVER!! Nothing compares to the story behind this one. Gibraltar and Isle of Man commemorating the 200th anniversary. Epic is what it was. I happen to have a duplicate of this one if anyone is interested in a trade off some type.

Cheap paper

A Nepali 1 rupee note showing the late king Birendra. There's a watermark of a crown in the little shrine spot. Josh keeps posting Buddhist stuff and I just happened across this and I thought I'd slip in this instead of a philatelic photo.

The Sultan

I got this one from the office of where I worked. A pair of 125th Universal Postal Union anniversaries and a mango and an oil palm stamp. Johor the city is where the stamp originated and the palm stamp has Johor just above Malasia on the stamp, not so the Mango stamp. The Sultan is also depicted in the corner of the stamp.

Is that the sun?

I've been hibernating. Just starting to feel some sun. Here's a nice sheet from the USPS's forever stamp depicting the USS Constitution. MMMM, nice.

Bug and bird

A web search for achillides palinurus daedalus brought me to the Bugmaniacs website http://www.thebugmaniac.be/. The have a specimen for sale and I would say that this image of the butterfly, while accurate, really doesn't do it justice. Bugmaniac describes it as "Fantastic !"

Thank you Ray for your cover!

100 years of international yacht racing union

Released in 07 from Macedonia. Seeing as Macedonia is a landlocked country, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic_of_Macedonia it no doubt helps Macedonian crew members to join international competition!

Thank you Goran

Birds

I needed to get the magnifiers out to see this birds name. I've never seen one before, but no wonder, it lives everywhere but in the Americas.

Abelharuco, the English wiki names it Bee-eater. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bee-eater

Thank you Andre

UNCLE!!

The day of reckoning has come for me. Years, yes years plural, of mail has been arriving at my house and I've been setting it aside with no time to answer it. I got time now. Sameer, forgive me in being remiss on replying till now, this cover rocks! I hope you are still at the same address!!

Maison Basque

A French region stamp sheet decorates this cover I recieved from Contesse Eric. Check out his website.

So much to do and so little time. 6 days a week of work is awful.  I miss the days of being out of work, but only slightly.

I missed my local club meeting again, one of these meeting days I hope, I will be able to attend.

In a galaxy far far away....

While Yoda was released in multiples, the only way to get the rest of these stamps is to purchase this sheet.

There is something cheesy about commercial ventures in stamps...ie... Disney stamps issued by island nations.  I do like this U.S. cheesy release.

It's a big one, click the image for a better view if you've got the bandwidth.

I also want to add, that the light saber(held by Darth Vader) was on the last shuttle mission which landed last week.   Hmmmm, are we starting to arm our shuttle for possible encounters?

Wasington/Jackson

Here's one of the stamps I ordered the other day. They also had sheets of twenty, NOT!! I'm sure I'll use these up quick regardless.

In the corner it says "Believed to have been proposed, but not used, for U.S. 1869 postage series.".

I also got some more Aurora sheets of two(March 2, 2007), though the postage is obsolete now.

I also got a surprise sheet, that I forgot about till today.

I'll save that for another day.

Two Bridges

This is a nice card I got from a dealer. It looks like an awesome city. Architecture AND Scenery.

I ordered some stamps I couldn't get at my P.O. hopefully they get here soon. I actually ordered some $5.00 Washington/Jacksons. I didn't want to buy 4 to get one, but I've found a registered reply letter is $9.60 reg. + .92 letter rate. $10.52.....Ouch.  I hope not many people mail me registered letters.

Rugby

I recieved this Friday. These rugby stamps come from a sheet, Check out the sheet.
Unfortunately, the 3 Euro in the right corner is 3D and doesn't reveal it's real eye appeal in a scan. The football jumps from the ground and gradually leaps into full view.

Thank you Mr Cotard Stephane. As you noted in your letter.  Even with the large number of stamps, the postage is correct with registered delivery. Also, you've thrown France into the quest treasure box.

Adopted a Cockatoo

Vasco De Gama's flagship.  I'm not sure of the name of the ship. I'll work on that until I get it, or someone knows it.  This is another penny stamp, catalogues at 40 cents, another high value. Mozambique Company again, like the other day.

A surprise cigar I got in a cheap cigar sampler. Actually, Gurkha was the only label I knew from the sampler.  Not worth the high price it normally sells for though.

Somehow I was offered a yellow crested cockatoo and it is perched beside my desk right now. That's 5 birds now.  No room for anymore. I don't want to be a rescue house. I'll post a picture within the next few days.

Gibralter

Angel is prolific with covers. Thank you Angel.  Another link of my quest for a cover from every country. I get mail from the Gibraltar stamp retailer, but such mail doesn't qualify as a true cover in my collection.

The date on the cancel perplexes me. I received this today, 10/23. So I assume the 10 is Oct, but the X?

400 for $4 high values

I received my 400 stamps today. Pretty much what you'd expect. I went thru half of it and found much Poland, San Marino, Paraguay and about 15 countries with 3-6 stamps for each.

I think by high value, it was meant that some may be worth more then minimum.

This Coconut Palms from 1937 catalogued 10 Cents over minimum. Hopefully not my biggest find.

I need to do some digging and see how many more of this set I have(19 in the set). They do look nice.

The Mozambique Company was chartered by Portugal for 50 years in 1891.

Seattle

I said I'd show pictures from Seattle yesterday.  Well I recieved my son and future daughter's invitation in this cover plastered with stamps.  Cool eh?

Actually, this is a short ferry ride Northwest of Seattle. I snapped 4 of these as the rainbow was quickly receading.
